What to expect from your Live-in position
Duties:
Bar & Waiting person:
Waiting:
Duties would include: Waiting, setting up of restaurant, polishing and rolling the cutlery, refilling condiments, cleaning the pub (hovering, mopping of floors, cleaning toilets – (everything that would need to be cleaned in a pub/restaurant)
Bar:
Duties would include: Bar service, cellar, restocking bar, cleaning bar, taking food orders for bar snacks, mopping bar floor after each shift.
General Assistant:
Duties would include: Bar service, waiting, cleaning, housekeeping and sometimes help in the kitchen – what ever needs doing – everyone mucks in to get the job done.
Salary
Minimum wage:
Age: 21+ - £5.93 per hour
Age: 18 – 20 - £4.92 per hour
Some places work it out on a set live-in wage where they will pay a set amount with no charge for accommodation or meals.
Please check with each individual manager what their salary is.
Shifts
99% of the shifts are split shifts, For example:
10am start till 3pm. Back on at 6pm till close
5 days a week, working week ends, 2 days off a week
Commitment
Most employers would expect minimum between 4 and 6 months commitment.
Accommodation
Staff accommodation is normally above the pub/restaurant, but can also sometimes be a staff house a few minutes away from the pub/restaurant.
Most positions will offer a shared room.
Charge for accommodation: Between £20 - £60 per week
Meals – you will need to check with each individual place if they include meals or if there would be meals on duty or if you would sort your own meals.
